The Resistance franchise developed by Insomniac Games is one of the PlayStation 3's front runners in the first-person shooting genre. According to critics, the success of this franchise is the same with all other movies and book series wherein it is rooted to a basic plot. It was the year 2006 when Insomniac Games explored the “what if” scenario in a video game, which opened up a lot of possibilities in the context of the story. Both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 had unique plots to boot, and Resistance 3 is looking to continue on that heritage.
Resistance 3 is due for release this 2011 in the PS3 and is already one of the most anticipated titles this year. However, Sony Computer Entertainment, the game's publisher, still has to determine an official release date for this game. For now, the projected release date for this game is on September 6, 2011. To those who have been playing this franchise, you might be aware that Nathan Hale was the main protagonist for the series' second installment. However, he will be replaced by Joseph Capelli for the lead role in Resistance 3 after Nathan got executed by the end of Resistance 2. The game is set in 1957 America, which is a few years after the events of the franchise's second game. Gamers will follow Joseph's story as he tries to start a new life with his family.
However, it is not too easy even with his wife and son because the Chimera has nearly destroyed all of US upon their invasion. They have basically taken control of humanity and have produced cannibalists out of the survivors of their attack. The remaining few survivors of the attack to the city is also experiencing lack of food and resources that make it difficult to survive on a day-to-day basis. Joseph Capelli therefore knows that he has to do something if he wants his family to survive this great ordeal and to prevent the same thing from happening to them.
This is when Joseph Capelli meets Dr. Fyodor Malinov, who convinces Joseph that there is still a chance to defeat the Chimera. Thus, Joseph decides to leave his family to venture into a long journey that would take him to Oklahoma and New York City. They will work together to stop the Chimera from further destroying the rest of the US. Dr. Malinov and Joseph Capelli will be working together in an effort to destroy the menace that has devastated the lives of innocent citizens, which means that he will be forced to face the enemies first hand.
The gameplay for Resistance 3 has a deeper focus on organized multiplayer modes along with a progression-based playing system. The story mode will give you two options: split-screen campaign and co-operative gameplay. Sadly though, the developers had confirmed that there won't be an 8-player co-op experience that was featured in Resistance 2.
Insomniac Games utilized the power of the fifth generation PlayStation 3 technology to develop Resistance 3. Thus, you can expect responsive controls, vivid visual presentation of the action, and unmatched intensity. You can also get your hands on old and new weapons alike. Some of the weapons that will be available in this game are quite familiar to Resistance fans, such as the Bullseye, Carbine, the Magnum, and Shotgun. There are weapons that generate “splash” damage; for instance, throwing a grenade will cause nails to be released into the air and leading to an explosion that will break your enemies into pieces. You also have to remember that the world of Resistance 3 is pretty much wrecked, so you will be forced to become resourceful and scrap up whatever it is you can find and assemble your own weapon.
Resistance 3 for the Sony PlayStation 3 has enough new features and an equally gripping storyline that will make it worth your time playing. The storyline, in particular, is another notable feature of the game and this is expected from the franchise. But Insomniac Games is aware that in order for them to draw more audience into this video game, they need to incorporate an entirely new experience as well. But only time will tell if they succeed in their goal upon the release of this new game. Given Insomniac Games' track record in releasing hit video games to the PS3 over the past and it's pretty sure that loyal gamers of the franchise are banking on that legacy.
