Guide to Star Wars The Force Unleashed on the PlayStation 3

Star Wars Force Unleashed will be arriving really soon and many are curious to find out whether it lives up to the hype. Indeed, the gameplay and overall look of the game is quite impressive. As the title implies, it seems like LucasArts will provide gamers with the force needed to whip up this game to a whole new level.

For the most part of Star Wars Unleashed, you'd be playing as the yet unnamed apprentice for Darth Vader himself. You will remain under his tutelage and join forces in your efforts to destroy any threat to the Empire. However, as that start of your quest in the game's story mode, you will be playing as Darth Vader. In your journey, you will be facing the Imperial troopers and the Rebel Alliance, and other Jedis as well. Star Wars Force Unleashed focuses mainly on this duo as they battle any Jedi running around the galaxy.

When it comes to the power and abilities of the character, the game stays true to its name, which is Star Wars Force Unleashed. If you have played a game off the series before, you can expect the typical skills and abilities. However, this time it got some major enhancements for Star Wars Unleashed to add up more excitement into your game.

The Star Wars Force Unleashed Controls

The controls in Star Wars Unleashed are very straightforward, something of which you can expect from a third-person action title.

The left analog stick can be utilized to move your character, while the right analog stick is mainly for controlling the camera. Press the Square button to use the lightsaber for executing a melee attack. This is a very effective weapon for use in Star Wars Force Unleashed, especially when using it on a three-hit combination which can be done by repeatedly pressing the button.

To execute the Force push in Star Wars Unleashed, simply press the Circle button. This will produce a blue energy that will push away any enemy or object that is standing in your path with much strength and quickness.

To activate the Force Grip ability, press the right shoulder button. When you have this activated in Star Wars Force Unleashed, it will enable you to grab hold of something (whether an enemy or object) and they won't be able to let go with such a force grip. Just make sure you keep pressing the right trigger. Meanwhile, release the button if you want to let go of the item or enemy and they'd be thrown or pushed away with tremendous force.

In order to use this power in Star Wars Force Unleashed, you must start by facing the object (or person/enemy) you wish to grab. There will appear a cursor on your target, but do take note of the significance of the color. When the cursor turns red, it could either mean that the object is too heavy for you to lift or it is nailed down. When the cursor turns blue, then you can grab and use it however you like.

As the Force Push and Force shockwave is still available for Vader's use in Star Wars Unleashed, you will also find that his choke hold has been replaced with the Force Lightning. It is indeed the perfect replacement for the choke since it has the ability to defeat multiple enemies at once by spreading out. The lightning attack will indeed serve as a major addition to your arsenal while battling troops in Star Wars Force Unleashed.

However, you do need to take note of your Force meter in Star Wars Unleashed. You can find it on the top left side of the screen, which is directly below the health meter (in green). Whenever you use any of your Force powers, you will automatically deplete the Force meter.

Don't worry though when your Force meter drops down because it is quite easy restoring them in Star Wars Force Unleashed. To do so, simply do some brisk pace and you will notice your health's improvement. Meanwhile, if you see any of your enemies fallen on the ground, they usually leave behind glowing green orbs that will immediately restore your health. By using your lightsaber, you can easily prevent damage through automatic deflection of any blaster fire aimed at you.

To make your character jump, press the X button. You might notice that your character's jump is already quite high, but you can increase the altitude of its jump by pressing the button again for a double jump. This might not be an entirely new ability for use in Star Wars Unleashed, but the added mobility will help you cut to the chase with enemies.

The mechanics of Star Wars Force Unleashed offers a seemingly endless array of abilities to use with up to 8 Force powers and 20 various lightsaber combination attacks. Indeed, the game offers you with a lot of ways to lift the game to a whole new level with such tremendous attack options to your roster.

Technical Aspects of Star Wars Force Unleashed

For Star Wars Unleashed, three physics engine has been used: Havok, DMM, and Euphoria. The biggest challenge for the developers was to incorporate all these three engines and make them work together smoothly. It was a challenge for them as certain aspects of the technical production need to be considered, especially in which specific aspects of the game will require certain technology.

You can credit much to the use of Euphoria in achieving a seemingly flawless animation when it comes to the characters in Star Wars Unleashed. With a game that consists of so much action, the way bodies react to all these actions contribute to creating a phenomenally realistic game.

Meanwhile, the team utilized the DMM for the simulation of the objects present in the game. If you have seen a preview of Star Wars Force Unleashed, and most especially with the new Force powers, you will see lots of objects breaking or being torn apart. The nice blend of all these technologies achieve a more polished look for the game.

Star Wars Force Unleashed comes in various console versions, from the PS2, PSP, and Wii. As for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, these two looked more polished and technically awesome. And while still on the technical side of things, expect a faster loading time for the PS3 version just as fans were hoping.

Now that the release of Star Wars Force Unleashed is just within sight, get ready to unleash your Jedi powers for the consoles.
