Ridge Racer 7
Welcome to our Ridge Racer 7 website.
It has been somewhat of a tradition, it seems, that new Sony consoles launch with a Ridge Racer title in the lineup. When the original PS came out in 1995 we had the first Ridge Racer and then in 2000 Ridge racer 5 was released alongside the PlayStation 2. With the PlayStation 3 we now get the latest in the series, Ridge Racer 7 (RR6 went to the XBox 360). There has been a number of changes made since RR5 and most have been an improvement on the series.
We have gathered together the best information currently available for Ridge Racer 7 including , our detailed review, an article detailing all of it's main features, screenshots to show you exactly what Ridge Racer 7 looks like, cheats for Ridge Racer 7 and gameplay tips too.
Ridge Racer 7 is a Sony PlayStation 3 Car Racing game, written by Namco.
Guide to Ridge Racer 7 on the PlayStation 3
It appears that Sony cannot launch a new console without Namco’s arcade racer. A version of Ridge Racer has been available with every system launch for the last 11 years!
So what can we expect this time? Well Reiko Nagase for one. Yes, indeed the queen of sideways action is back on a Sony home console – her last outing was on the PSone in Ridge Racer Type 4 - so hopefully we are destined for some classic racing along ridges again.
As RR7 is all about the racing you can expect to match up against up to 13 others online with speeds designed to burn your eyes and all in glorious 5.1 surround sound.
With 20 tracks for Namco to show off the PS3’s power and the nitro add-ons for your racing machine - carried on from the last few editions of the series, now customisable in a mind-boggling number of ways, the stage is set for you to fall in love with that famous drift action again. But this time there is a new slipstreaming element for extra speed too. Good thing then that this all runs in super smooth 1080p. It’s a shame though that new televisions will have to be bought to enjoy every last gleam in the sunlight.
The cars are rated by their drift tendency - mild, normal and dynamic – as well as by power. Mild cars corner with the most grip, Normal is a balance drift and grip and Dynamic is for the Sultans of Slide. However, you will have to learn to get sideways as that’s where you earn your all important nitro boosts.
The core of the single player game is Ridge State Grand Prix, where you compete in numerous races, time trails and manufacturer trials. Winning the manufacture trials opens up their parts bin for you to rummage around in to improve your racer. Ridge racer vehicles are traditionally not real world manufacturer associated so all can be modified in thousands of ways including engines, body parts and paint jobs.
Ridge Racer 7 is designed to be an online community with the main menu having a status screen detailing online matches won, online battle points earned, and fame ranking. The game keeps track of your achievements both on and off line and gives you the opportunity to compare your scores against others in the community.
The online racing also has a chat room for those pre-race and post race comments to your opponents and a host of single and team events for you get involved in. The comments however appear to be preset so you pick from a list when you are devising your teams strategy for racing or for when you are lording it over the freshly defeated.
Additionally, a ticker at the bottom of the screen (think of the “live” scores screens in sports games) will provide you with recent race results and game news. If you excel in a race you have the option to enter your name into a blurb for this ticker so that when people log in to play, the ticker is updated for everyone to see.
It appears then, that if you think you can drive and you are looking for bragging rights then Ridge Racer 7 is the game to have.
