As a member of the US Army Rangers you, Seargeant Nathan Hale, are part of a joint effort between Britain and the US to halt their advance. You have a slight advantage over your fellow soldiers, however - early into the game you find yourself infected by the Chimera and for some reason you are the only one to have awoken from this happening.

Insomniac Studios is probably best known for the Ratchet and Clank series of games as well as the original Spyro games on the PSOne. They got their start, however, with a first-person shooter game called Disruptor. It's been awhile but they are now returning to their roots with Resistance: Fall Of Man for the PlayStation 3.
Resistance takes place in the year 1951- however, in this alternate timeline World War 2 never happened. You are Sgt. Nathan Hale, a member of the US Army Rangers, and have been send to England as part of a last-ditch effort to help British troops defeat the Chimera- a lifeform of unknown origin that has overrun all of Europe.
At your disposal are various weaponry of both human and Chimera origin, including your standard M151 machine gun, the Bullseye (bullets track to a tracer round, allowing them to go around obstacles) and the Hedgehog grenade which shoots out a flurry of spikes in all directions.
The enemies in this game are not the typical dumbed-down variety. Using the power of the PS3 the Chimera exhibit a good deal of intelligence, providing covering fire while others try to outflank you or advancing on your position while you hide behind some cover.
For those into the multiplayer aspect of this sort of game Insomniac has you covered. Players will find split-screen play for up to 4 players and online matches that can hold up to 40 players in a variety of single and team-based matches. You have your choice of being human or Chimera, with each having their own pros and cons (humans can move faster while Chimera can see through walls and inflict more damage in rage mode, but this rage mode also makes the Chimera prone to more damage). Voice chat is available for communicating with your teammates.
This game is turning out to be what some would consider a "killer ap" for the PlayStation 3 launch. I won't go so far to call it that myself as of yet but I will have my final opinion ready soon in the full review.
