Guide to Red Dead Redemption on the PlayStation 3
The American Wild West is a famous setting in American film making during the historical era but no video game has successfully explored this with success, at least, than Rockstar's Red Dead Redemptions. Many critics would boldly claim that it is far ahead of its time and sets a new bar for all other western concept video games out there. Meanwhile, Rockstar will also leverage its uncanny ability to hold up a mirror against society to reflect the darker sides of life.
The storyline is the richest and most compelling aspect of play in PS3's Red Dead Redemptions. It does not aim to preach politics on gamers but rather enables you to control a neutral John Marston. He is an outlaw who is placed right smack in the middle of a lawless land wherein he exists with former friends who've turned into his enemies. Although at first glance this setup appears to be a cliché, the storyline goes much deeper than that to ensure that you can get a full gaming experience that is unmatched.
During the entire storyline for Red Dead Redemptions, you will find yourself exploring a vast countryside that is somewhere along the borders of the US and Mexico. You will meet a variety of characters as you move along the story who will either assist you in your quest, or try to stop you in your tracks. You can feel the game world come to life before your eyes through these characters, who are excellently voiced and give realistic dialogue that truly depict the setting. One criticism that experts had to point out about Marston's character in relation to the story though is that he has the tendency to be divorced from his actions, which in itself could lose a sense of motivation.
Red Dead Redemptions for the PS3 promises to offer up to 20 hours of playing time, which gives you a lot of things to do to fill your time. You will also delight in the fact that Rockstar is a master when it comes to the sandbox genre, such that nothing ever feels forced or unnatural while you play this one. Aside from the main storyline, you will also get numerous side quests or missions to fulfill. The best part about most of these side missions is that they are still connected to the main storyline, which contributes to delivering a more rich experience.
Rockstar has also managed to tie up the game with its online community via the Rockstar Social Club. With this you can connect Red Dead Redemptions online to engage in various challenges and compete in the leaderboards. With so much variety, it is no doubt that you will be spending days and weeks at this game with no end.
The questions of morality will be forced right smack into players from time to time as you continue to explore the story for Red Dead Redemptions. You can either choose one of two paths. You can choose to side with the folks that assault women or rob the town or the good path wherein your goal would be to help out the needy and become part of the honorable ones. You will find a morality meter and a separate fame bar for tracking your actions in the game and their consequences to the succeeding events.
Still in keeping with the sandbox genre, Red Dead Redemptions enables you to hop on to any vehicle you can find (or even hopping on a horse or other transport animals you can find in the countryside) to get to your next mission. Then, you can bask yourself in the breathtaking view of the American west, which has been rendered in rich detail to make it as vivid as possible. The art direction is certainly one of the highlight and most notable features of this game.
In addition to the main storyline and challenges in Red Dead Redemptions, you'd be surprised to know that there is still more left to do. There are cooperative and competitive modes to play online wherein up to 16 gamers can play at the same time. In the competitive mode, you have standard games to play such as Capture the Flag or Standard Shootouts.
The Free Roam mode is also one of few modes in Red Dead Redemptions that can stand on its own. This is what represents the multiplayer lobby system for the game, which enables you to take the action up to another level. You can all participate in little skirmishes in town, assault bandits, take over forts, or do anything that you want – the possibilities are endless!
If sandbox games are your thing and you appreciate the beauty of the American west, then you've got yourself quite a must-have game with Red Dead Redemptions. There is probably no other game out there that has perfected this genre and is a complete game in every sense of the word.
