Guide to No More Heroes Heroes Paradise on the PlayStation 3

No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise is another title set to invade the PS3 gaming consoles this year. Thus, all curious eyes are set on this game as hardcore gamers are interested to know what new challenges are in store for them. This revamp of a game that was an exclusive to the Nintendo Wii will definitely give gamers a unique experience.

Gamers of No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise on the PS3 will be controlling the main character, Travis Touchdown. He is an average otaku with a fondness for wrestling, anime, porn, and kittens. One day, he decided to purchase a beam katana online and ventures into a life of being an assassin to impress a lady that he's been eyeing on for a long time. However, this forces him right smack into real action as he has to battle several other assassins in order to become recognized by the United Assassins Association as their number one assassin.

The story that serves as the backdrop for action in No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise is criticized heavily by gaming experts as “shallow” and “pointless”. However, that is only when you decide to look at the game on a surface level. If you decide to delve deeper and understand its mechanics, you will find out soon that there is actually a lot of substance to it. The action, to be specific, is no non-sense. The boss battles are designed to shake your core and this is what the theme focus for the game is about. There are also terrific cutscenes featured in the game, which is both cinematic and does a great job of transitioning the story, filling the gamers up with holes in the plot.

It isn't long until Travis realizes that killing is not as simple as it seems. Travis realizes a deeper meaning to each battle that he had to face, especially as he rises up the ranks whenever he successfully defeats someone. This helps to make Travis Touchdown a three-dimensional hero, instead of a stereotypical and flat character that are quite boring to play as. This is where No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise redeems itself. However, the game does not take itself too seriously; there are several wacky moments that also help provide comic relief and another dimension to this PS3 game. It helps that the voice actors have done a great job at voicing the characters so they seem a lot more real to gamers than just merely being video game characters.

The story also follows a progression such that the action becomes more intense and more violent as you move forward in the game. However, it is all done in a good pace such that gamers are not overwhelmed by the change in the course of action. The only downside that is noticeable with the game and something that critics raised concern about is the lack of motion control technology. However, do not think that developers and senior game creator Suda 51 missed out on that because they did purposely left it out. This is the same thing with the Wii version release as well. So, it does not differ what console you are playing in because there won't be any motion control system with any of them.

There are several reasons why you should include No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise on your list of games to buy this year. For one, it features a kick-ass visual presentation that render the environment and characters to life. It also helps to make the intense action scenes and battles more intense. Don't expect to find blood and gore, but the combat is still satisfyingly fun and absorbing. Even though there are shortcomings with the general gameplay experience, the depth of the story and the conflict faced by characters make it worthy of investing your time on.

On the downside, the enemies lack depth and substance to them. They are just that, “enemies” and doesn't seem to have a life or character on its own, wherein you have no clear idea of their motivations except to beat you. With that said, enemy AI is ridiculous and this is where the combat experience loses a few points. The lack of motion based attacks also put a limit to the moves that you can explore in this game.

No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise for the PS3 will probably appeal only to the hardcore gamers of this franchise. There are some technical mishaps to this game and seem to lack some polish. But the nice graphical upgrade saves the game, along with the character portrayal that provides a new dimension to the game.
