Guide to FEAR 3 on the PlayStation 3
The F.E.A.R. franchise has drawn a lot of attention since it first made its way onto the gaming market because it elicits the same kind of reaction that was expected with a video game franchise named like that. Thus, developer Day 1 Studios is looking to continue that with this new iteration F.E.A.R. 3 on the PS3, which already released on June 21, 2011 as published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. If you like action games, then this is something that you should have on your PS3. Read more below to find out why.
The opening scene of F.E.A.R. 3 is set at the Armacham penitentiary, which some people might criticize for being generic and lifeless, but is actually necessary to set the tone for the game. However, the opening scene is only a glimpse as to what the game really has to offer. This is an exceptionally designed first person shooting game that does a masterful job at mixing both horror and action. All of gamers are therefore encouraged to continue on even when the first few levels might not deliver the action you were expecting, at least not initially.
The story of F.E.A.R. 3 follows the conclusion of events from F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. In here, you will be playing as the Point Man who is joined by is sibling Paxton Fettel in this quest. For those who cannot remember, Fettel was part of the first game but was shot by Point Man in the face, causing the former to die. However, he has resurrected in this game and is now equipped with paranormal powers wherein he can possess dead enemy soldiers.
There is a campaign co-op mode available in the PS3 version of F.E.A.R. 3. When you play this mode, you can choose to play online or via split-screen when you go for offline gaming. Although Fettel has his own powers, Point Man is slightly genetically enhanced and is very well equipped with all types of shooting weapons. He therefore takes his assault rifles and shotguns with him at all times to compensate for his lack of supernatural abilities.
The story is pure horror that will excite you and get you on edge simply because the people working behind the story has massive skills in the horror genre, such as John Carpenter and Steve Niles. The narrative is nothing like BioShock yet, but it is certainly on its way there. The storytelling is after all a good compliment to campaign that is remarkably diverse and riveting.
You will also find a lot of mission variety in F.E.A.R. 3 wherein you will explore various settings, such as airports, to a sprawling metropolis, to a ghetto area, or the suburbs. The developers of F.E.A.R. 3 have picked environment artists to create the various settings of this game and it is no doubt paying off as this is a beautiful game, which therefore makes it easier to transport you into this another realm.
The damage system for F.E.A.R. 3 is another noteworthy feature of this game. You can mutilate and dismember any enemy that you encounter in the game, which is why this game is not for the weak of heart. Some gamers might complain about the excessive gore infused in this game, but it all works out well because it is part of the nature of the game and it won’t produce the same level of intensity that it has without the realistic gore. Don’t expect the campaign to last very long though as it is relatively shorter than the previous games.
The multiplayer game in F.E.A.R. 3 offers the standard fare, such as capture the flag, team deathmatch, and other similar multiplayer game features. However, there are a few modes and games introduced in the multiplayer aspect that would differentiate it from traditional multiplayer games and offers more fun than you can imagine. Other notable modes in this game are Soul King and Soul Survivor, wherein Fettel will possess AI characters.
There are no doubt a few complaints about F.E.A.R. 3, among other flaws. However, there is a nice balance between gore, action, and providing a horrific experience for a truly satisfying gameplay experience. The exception environmental design and a gripping campaign (albeit short) all combine to keep you glued on your PS3 for several hours. However, you might be too engrossed to find the campaign too short. But if you take the time to explore what F.E.A.R. 3 for the PS3 has to offer gamers, then you will realize there is more merit to this game than most critics would give it credit for. If you are a fan of this genre, this game is a must have.
