Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit is a Sony PlayStation 3 Fighting game, written by Dimps.

Guide to Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit on the PlayStation 3

One of the game franchises that Atari has had a reasonable amount of success with is Dragon Ball Z, based on the long- running anime series. Over the last couple of iterations, though, things got maybe a bit too cluttered in regards to the amount of characters available. With this in mind, Atari and developer Dimps Corporation decided to do a "reboot" of the series with its jump to the PS3.

The game features five play modes, the main one being Z Chronicles. This is a single player story mode with a bit of a twist. Instead of playing as a single character throughout, you change characters depending on how the story plays out. As you finish each stage, more stages open up- your choices here determine who you play as/ who you go up against. The story is based directly on the episodes of the show from the beginning to the Cell Saga- those looking for certain other characters that came in later, such as Maijin Boo, will be somewhat disappointed. Still, with a total of 20 or so characters to choose from including series mainstays Goku, Piccolo and Kryllin, players should still be pleased with the game's character offerings.

Versus mode lets you choose a character and fight it out against a CPU- controlled opponent (good for practicing the combos), or let two computer players duke it out to possibly find a strategy that may work. Those looking for a flesh-and-blood challenge can also face a friend on the same machine. Online play is a must for these games in the minds of many- that is included as well.

Of course, a fighting game is only as good as its fighting system, and Burst Limit seems to do a decent job on that front. Those that have played the DBZ: Budokai games on the PS2 will be familiar with it as it is very similar- at the same time, though, Dimps Corporation have made it accessible enough for newcomers to the series to jump in.

A new addition to the fighting is the Drama Piece system. This lets you pick three "helper" characters that are triggered automatically once certain conditions are played out. For example, let's say you are facing someone with an energy attack. If you have a support character activated that can block these he/ she will jump in and do just that. The guard system requires split- second timing considering the game speed. Over time players should be able to adapt. Super Moves can also be blocked but this will cost you some "ki" energy.

Graphically the game is looking just as good as the show it is based on thanks to the mixing of cel-shading and the power of the PS3. It is fast to the point of being hard to follow at times, and the frame rate doesn't stutter even once.

Overall, this is looking to be a good entry, both for those wanting to continue their battles with the Dragon Ball Z characters, and those looking to jump in to a Dragon Ball Z game for the first time. The game is available now in North America and we will be putting up a full review shortly. Best start practicing your KAMEHAMEHA now!

Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit Game Features

* Online Feature - Competition grows with the ability to play online in both the co-op and vs. modes.
* Unique DBZ Story -During each battle, find conditions to create new scenes and watch a unique story unfold at the end of each game.
* Higher Quality Gaming - Experience visuals and movement reminiscent of the anime due to Z3 shading technology and detailed effects.
* High Intensity battles - Increased speed of charge and release on the field, free movement around the field, and increased speed and power of attacks.
* Energy - Use of special skills will no longer drain energy. The lower your energy, the stronger you get, making for a possible turnaround of the battle.
* Fatal Blow - Each character in the game has their own "Fatal Blow". If the player successfully attacks his opponent, this would be a finishing move, but if not, it will put the player in the disadvantageous situation, and he must battle with no "Fatal Blow" for the rest of the battle.
