Dark Void website

Dark Void is a sci-fi action-adventure game that combines an adrenaline-fuelled blend of aerial and ground-pounding combat.

We have gathered together the best information currently available for Dark Void including , an article detailing all of it's main features, reviews written by readers just like you, screenshots to show you exactly what Dark Void looks like, cheats for Dark Void and gameplay tips too.

Dark Void is a Sony PlayStation 3 Action game, written by Airtight Games.

Guide to Dark Void on the PlayStation 3

Dark Void id a revolutionary shooter for the PlayStation 3 that will attempt to redefine how the shooting genre is supposed to be like. With Capcom as its publisher, you can be rest assured that the game is going on full gear when it makes an appearance on multiple consoles, especially after Capcom executive Mark Beaumont has dubbed Dark Void as one of their most significant releases this year.

Airtight Studios are responsible for developing Dark Void on the PS3 and while it is basically a shooter, it showcases a bit of semblance with some other games in the industry. The gameplay for Dark Void is a cross between Crimson Skies and Gears of War. Hence, it gives you the idea that the developers for this game are sticking to what they traditionally do but they added some flare into it to provide a distinctively unique focus that would set Dark Void apart from other shooters.

But before delving deep into gameplay for Dark Void, let's take a quick rundown on its interesting back story first. The name of the protagonist is Will and is the same character that gamers will be able to immerse themselves into. He is a down-on-his-luck cargo pilot whom, in one of his trips, luckily (or perhaps unluckily depending on one's perspective) opted to take a shortcut in the Bermuda Triangle. This decision has led him to an alternate world where he discovers several UFOs being piloted by robots. His only chance at returning to the normal world is through the scientific genius of Dr. Nikola Tesla. But before Tesla could figure out how to get him back to where he used to be, Will is forced to innovate with his jetpack and be able to handle all his robotic villains in Dark Void while awaiting for a way to get back home.

The biggest highlight for the gameplay in Dark Void is its diversity and variety of options. And it all boils down to his jetpack, which he has strapped on his suit. This turns him as a hero with unique abilities in a wide variety of combat adventures. Combat experience in Dark Void does have the tendency to appear a bit disoriented but it is nonetheless thrilling and fun. In the previous press demonstrations conducted by Airtight Games for Dark Void, they've been able to showcase an effective combination of on-foot, in-flight, and other signature combat mechanics there is to try. This diverse gameplay format in Dark Void offers distinctions such that many are having trouble how to categorize this game – a flight combat or a shooter?

The verticality focus in Dark Void is where all of the distinction and diversity comes from, thanks to Will's jetpack. In order to progress through the different levels of the game, one is required to scale vertical levels, multiple cliffs and ledges. According to the developers, the flight combat in Dark Void is the easier part of the gameplay as it is only bound to get even more intense as soon as you toss in the enemies into the picture. Combine this flight ability with the large variety of weapons to choose from that includes shooting guns, standard assault rifles, among others, can really turn your enemies into trails of damage.

As an essential component during gameplay, the jet pack used by Will in Dark Void needs to be discussed fully. During the initial stages of the game, this device will function as a hover pack. However, as you progress deeper into the game, you can get access to upgrades via tech points and use them on your jet pack that adds up to its abilities. With upgraded jet packs, you basically increase its ability to boost its full flight capacity.

Dark Void also features a unique cover system, which utilizes the unique level design of the game. The use of a cover system reinforces the fact that this game is indeed a shooter while at the same time allowing you to explore the uncharted territories of this game. Whenever you navigate the walls or ledges there are in Dark Void, it provides you an advantageous vantage point against your enemies such that you are looking down on them and free to aim at will. At this point, the shift in camera perspective allows you to see only Will's hand. The ledges provide automatic cover where you can pop in and out anytime while firing at your enemies. The use of vertical cover, as Airtight Studios insist, helps to bridge the gap between the aerial combat mechanics and cover gameplay used in this game.

On to the shooting action, Dark Void offers an intuitive Blind Fire mechanic. This is most effective to use with the position you are in as stated above. This could also work with close combat wherein you can simply grab an enemy by the foot and watch them roll over down the ledge and into the pile below. Navigating through these difficult ledges, firing at enemies, and taking quick cover are all made possible by the simple and efficient control system. In fact, it contextually appears on-screen to provide you hints on what buttons to use.

The aerial combat aspect of the gameplay for Dark Void is as equally interesting as the shooting aspect. You can pilot a rocket ship and take off, turning this FPS into an exciting aerial combat action. While manning the ship, you can activate a targeting reticule to effectively shoot at enemies. But that is not half the fun yet as you can also hijack an enemy's aircraft if you get close enough.

Speaking of enemies, there's a ton of varieties in the enemies you'd have to face in Dark Void too. You need to bring your A-game at all times because you'll never know what's waiting for you up the bend. Most of the enemies you'd be facing for the majority of play are AA (anti aircraft) guns and UFOs, each corresponding for your set of enemies for on-foot and aerial action, respectively. You will also face Terminator-style warriors but they'd be fairly easy to beat using quick melee execution. Plus, it helps that Will is equipped with a regenerative health system in Dark Void to cure any damage incurred.

While Dark Void has had a few comparisons with a few games, this ends on a generic level. Once you get the opportunity to delve deep into the gameplay system, you'd realize that it is a much fresher take for either a shooter or an aerial combat. And with that, Dark Void proves to be a must-have for any PS3 gamer when it finally comes out in 2010.
