Call Of Duty World At War is a Sony PlayStation 3 Action Shooter game, written by Treyarch.

Guide to Call Of Duty World At War on the PlayStation 3

Call of Duty: World at War is the newest offering from this long-running series by developer Treyarch. For this new game, it aims to simultaneously recreate previous experiences from the series while trudging unfamiliar grounds. With that being said, you can expect to experience the fundamentals of the series in COD World at War but with a much more in-depth and violent twist.

Aside from delivering what fans have come to expect of this series, Treyarch is looking to push the limits of this game. When you sit down to play Call of Duty WAW, gear up for a massive battle as the developers have utilized current-gen hardware technology to creating an epic game. To create a darker retelling of how the 2nd World War unfolded is one of this game's missions.

You will embark on your adventure in COD World at War after escaping your Japanese captors while at the Makin atoll. Although this signals only the start of the game, do not be surprised at how quickly the level of action will rise from there. Then, you and a few other soldiers will hike through dark jungles as you slowly make your way to full escape. But before you know it, Japanese guerilla soldiers are on your toes, ambushing you from behind the bushes and ruining your plan of escape. Even at this early stage in Call of Duty World at War, you need to be vigilant because there is almost literally no safe place to hide.

Call of Duty WAW is set to explore what is often overlooked in the series, which is the Pacific Theatre. With the developers' aim to produce a more grisly recreation of the World War II happenings, this is probably where Treyarch succeeds in doing so. Meanwhile, there is also the Pacific Battle, which records the highest casualty from all wars in the Call of Duty World at War. In this battle, you will also get to witness tanks and autocannons take center stage while you can get a first glance at the flamethrower.

The Peleliu level in COD World at War will kick off with you trudging quietly with your troops and it is indeed a deceiving start to what could potentially be the game's biggest battle. As your team crosses knee-deep waters, you encounter a crashed plane. A seemingly quiet plane turns out to be an ambush point for Japanese soldiers as they emerge from the bush. Here, it dramatically changes into a battle for you and your soldiers' lives.

Once you have completed the Peleliu level, you will then move on to the Eviction chapter of COD World at War. After partaking of a winding battle, this chapter will see the game's return to the traditional setting that the series has been known for. This is the perfect opportunity to assess where the remainder of Call of Duty WAW will end up in.

As much as the war just keeps escalating in Call of Duty World at War, the enhanced control system is also keeping up with the action. This is a familiar feature in COD World at War, wherein the game has always been known to have a responsive control scheme. However, this time it adds a new twist into the familiar control: gamers can now gain access to previously hidden weapons such as the flamethrower.

Speaking of the flamethrower, this is definitely a valuable weapon in COD World at War. Using this weapon will easily take down enemies hidden behind the bush or tall grass. Meanwhile, it is equipped with a fuel gauge that makes this a very powerful weapon. Once you've used up this weapon too much, simply wait for it to cool down so you can proceed using it against your enemies.

For the first time in the series, Call of Duty World at War will be having a co-op gameplay mode. This will enable up to four players to simultaneously play together online, or two players on an offline split-screen game.

This gameplay mode, however, does not seem to create much change in the overall gameplay in Call of Duty WAW. Instead of focusing on the specific role of each player in the process, it emphasizes the teamwork aspect. You will need to work together with your teammates in order to get a certain task done. Indeed, it sticks to the old fashioned teamwork style since you won't be able to survive without the help of your other fellow soldiers.

On the other hand, there is also the competitive co-op mode. Unlike the other type of co-op mode for COD World at War, this one is more incentive-based. It works basically the same as multiplayer (in terms of customization and rewards) but places it on a story setting.

The same engine used in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is also used in COD World at War. This was done in order to increase the realistic aspect of this game in terms of how the objects or in-game characters themselves interact with other objects in the game. For instance, bullets have been expertly rendered so they resemble an actual bullet and how it is able to penetrate various surfaces. So when playing Call of Duty World at War and hiding behind a wooden wall, be careful because the bullet might just pass right through it. The same goes with other forms of cover you hide behind, increasing the realistic nature of this game.

If you're looking for pure action, Call of Duty World at War is certainly the game for you. It is a perfect blend of gun blasting, hiding behind cover, sprinting, and lots of fighting. However, this promises to be more violent but only in a realistic sense, to give you a better glimpse of an actual battlefield. If it is war that you have come to expect for COD World at War, it is certainly war that you are going to get!

Call Of Duty World At War Game Features

• Call of Duty 4 Technology – Built using the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War utilizes a bedrock of technology that delivers jaw-dropping visuals, while empowering players to employ elements like fire to affect the dynamics of the battlefield. Players that attempt to harness the power of new weapons, like the flamethrower, will find themselves capable of burning away environmental elements that give cover to a camouflaged enemy, leaving a charred battlefield – and their foes – in their wake.

• Coordinated Assault and Support – For the first time in the franchise, Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-op, bringing fresh meaning to the “No One Fights Alone” mantra. Call of Duty: World at War co-op features up to four-players online, or two-player local split-screen, allowing gamers to experience harrowing single-player missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. The title also incorporates traditional multiplayer components such as challenges, rankings and online stats into the co-op campaign for deeper re-playability and advanced gameplay..

• New Theaters of Operation – Players fight as U.S. Marines and Russian soldiers facing enemies – some new to the Call of Duty franchise – that employ lethal new tactics and know no fear, no mercy, nor the rules of war. Epic conflicts are fought on multiple fronts, playing through the climactic battles of WWII in the grittiest, most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date.

• Innovative Multiplayer – Multiplayer builds from the success of Call of Duty delivering a persistent online experience for more squad based interaction. New development with party systems allows an intimacy with squad based combat never before seen in Call of Duty. Combined infantry and vehicle missions add a new dimension to the online warfare and offers more PERK abilities.

• Cinematic Quality Graphics and Sound – Treyarch’s award-winning sound department returns with effects that add to the already immersive cinematic intensity of the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare game engine.
