Blur is a Sony PlayStation 3 Car Racing game, written by Bizarre Creations.

Guide to Blur on the PlayStation 3

Blur is a non-traditional take on racing, which is delivered by Bizzare Creations for the racing-hungry PS3 gamers. Although there are a lot of other competitive racers in the market and some of them are even courtesy of Bizzare Creations themselves, such as Project Gotham Racing and Metropolis Street Racer, Blur defies the norm by turning its attention towards vehicular combat married together with an arcade-style of driving.

The distinctive approach utilized on Blur for the PS3 will help set it apart and stand out from all other racers in the market today. If you think you've had fun competing against other racers in a track with your eyes all on the finish line, wait until you get to take on the driver's wheel in Blur and incorporate a lot of fun, often crazy ideas, to truly render this an unforgettable gameplay experience. Blur has certainly succeeded in reliving the old arcade tradition of a game that has vanished for a few decades, but still retains its allure into the loyal gamers of the PlayStation 3.

The development team started off their design plan for Blur by checking out other racers in an effort to offer not only distinctive but compelling storyline. As much as possible, they wanted to veer away from traditional cut scenes and celebrity cameos because they wanted the game to actually be the one to define this franchise. The character you will be controlling in Blur is faceless, although you do get the opportunity to interact with other NPCs in the game. You will get to know more of them as you advance forward in the game and you acquire more skills as you continue to race ahead. The narrative for Blur begins with your racer starting off at a specific location, then you build up your fanbase until you get to face off with other racers.

The social network interface integration in Blur is tied up with the online features of the game. Indeed, hard core gamers will be able to become more involved with the actual playing experience since they are not merely competing with fake racers. In fact, one has the ability to fully interact with other racers such as swapping messages, voting for races, and get a full inventory of your race statistics. The developers of Blur have also promised to incorporate new applications over time, think of something like Facebook, and you can gain the ability to achieve a flexible relationship with fellow racers or build rivalries for more excitement.

Onto the racing action in Blur, this title does not flood the gamer with a seemingly endless list of vehicles and other customization options. However, it does a great job of forging action over realistic play. Any hardcore racing fan would easily take notice at the rate of speed at which Blur comes right through your screen, thus aptly titled. To those who were unprepared, you could initially find yourself disoriented but once you got used to the pace, you should be able to have fun mixing all these racing elements together. Bizarre certainly prides itself for keeping the action level constantly moving at a consistent pace.

At the heart of every racing title are the vehicles to choose from and although the ones featured in Blur meet the passable standard of modeling, vehicle conditioning is what sets this title apart. You can certainly witness doors swinging open, deformed panels, bumpers that are literally hanging off, black smoke coming out of the hood, and all these dramatic elements that make your vehicle function like a real vehicle is supposed to. While Blur does not stand up to the likes of Project Gotham Racing, the developers have been able to max out its strengths, such as offering enough array of licensed cars, real world locations, compelling visuals, and impressive racing physics. The only difference with Gotham Racing is basically it has been molded to cut corners to make this racing manageable but not easy either.

The race types in Blur offer you something innovative up the bend at all times. Therefore, you won't be restricted to races that awards the first one to reach the finish line. The role of fans are very potent in Blur, such as donating money to racers after each event so you can buy upgrades for your vehicle, unlocking perk fans that will boost your racing chances, among others. Another interesting aspect to Blur is the ability to bribe fans so you can gain power-ups. And speaking of power-ups in Blur, this is something that each driver must collect throughout each race that will assign you Nitros to get a burst of speed, generate defensive shields, get a burst of energy, or strategically put them together in a combo to increase your chances of winning a race.

With 50 licensed vehicles featured in Blur, players are treated to a stunning racing experience with lifelike locations from various locations from LA, San Fransisco, UK, Barcelona, Japan, and many more. As you progress deeper into the story in Blur, you can unlock more of these locations and vehicles. There are four basic vehicle types available in the game: Rat, Drift, Smooth, and Tuner. Each perform differently and are intended to represent different racing cultures.

The single player experience in Blur eases you into different scenarios and attacks that are mostly physics-based. So, whether you experience a crash or bump into another racer's vehicle, your car will take visible damage but if you spot any glowing beam of light on the road, then drive through it for instant vehicle repair. You can also activate the shield when prompted to avoid being attacked by other drivers.

If you wish to tag your friends along for a multiplayer action in Blur, then you certainly can with up to 20 player-maximum support provided in this game. Another exciting multiplayer action is the split-screen races that facilitate up to four racers at one time. In addition, Blur provides support for either competitive and cooperative play during multiplayer action so you can compete with the players in your network for highly intense objective- or team-based action. The most distinct multiplayer feature is Custom Groups, which enable you to create your own unique multiplayer modes that incorporate your favorite elements from the game into one.

When Blur zooms its way onto the PS3, fans can expect a game that will change the way you look at arcade-style racer forever.
