Guide to Assassins Creed 2 on the PlayStation 3

Assassin's Creed 2 (PS3)

Assassin's Creed 2 is an epic title of one of the gaming industry's biggest franchises ever established. As gamers once again pick up their controller, they'd be immersed into one of the most organic game worlds ever created in the history of console gaming. And this isn't any form of exaggeration as many who've played the original game had high hopes for Assassin's Creed 2. In fact, once you started playing, you'll get the urge to finish it – that's how gripping the gameplay is!

But that is just at the most external core of Assassin's Creed 2 – you're bound to become more impressed once you dive into the essentials of the gameplay and rich story that propels the game forward. This is therefore one of the best times of the year when big names such as this franchise from Ubisoft is out to please hard core action-adventure gamers. But in order to create a distinction with Assassin's Creed 2 over the original, they are taking you beyond the game world because there are tons of activities to engage in, lots of exploration involved, and everything plays out smoothly for one of the most successful game releases this year.

One way for Assassin's Creed 2 to define itself above the standards of common action adventure titles in the market is the movie-like experience that the gamer is being treated to. The sequel literally kicks off a mere seconds after the original game ends. Therefore, one might be required to play through the original game to get a good grip of the story's background or better yet it can prove advantageous during gameplay exploration. The initial sequences will serve to provide a quick recap of the events of the first title and then everything unfolds in an exciting domino of events. Playing as Desmond Miles, you will be confronted with lots of tough challenges in Assassin's Creed 2, being a descendant of professional assassin's. After you were kidnapped by the Abstergo Corporation during the first game and tried to take out details of your memory bank with the use of the Animus machine in an effort to trace an ancient artifact. After this sequence, Lucy (your confidant in Assassin's Creed 2) enters the scene and this is just the start of an explosive series of action.

In the first game, the frame story was intended only to provide gamers a clue into the motivations of your character. But with Assassin's Creed 2, Desmond is highly involved in the actual game action. It is unclear though at the start what Desmond really has to do and what points him into doing these things, but everything else will slowly unfold as you move forward, with the level of uncertainty of what the future actually holds for your character adds up a lot to the mystery and excitement. One nice aspect about the game world for Assassin's Creed 2 is the impressive amount of visual detail, thus it feels more like a real world than a simulation.

A clever way to introduce the tutorial in Assassin's Creed 2 is by playing this clip, which is a flashback of Desmond's past. Soon after Ezio's birth, you will be asked to perform basic actions using one of the four face buttons. This is an ingenious way to figure out what actions each button represent, such as running, jumping, climbing, and controlling your vision. With several great moves and combinations available at your character's disposal in Assassin's Creed 2, the familiar button assignment shouldn't make it feel as though executing them is such a burden.

One nice touch about Assassin's Creed 2 is that you eventually see Ezio's development as an assassin before your eyes. Instead of being an overtly powerful and skilled character, he starts off as a young boy who pick up the essential skills to learn along the way. Eventually, he starts to pick up important weaponry that you can use against equally heavy and tough enemies. All of these elements are very well handled by the developers of Assassin's Creed 2, such that even with the huge amount of activities to get involved with in the game, it never reaches to a point wherein it begins to overwhelm the player.

When incorporating refinements for Assassin's Creed 2, Ubisoft has continually insisted on paying attention to opinions from fans and critics alike. Once you play this game, you'd be suitably impressed at how evident those changes are done based on community feedback. The developers have omitted the stringent formula that was employed in the first game wherein you can move onto a killing spree after accomplishing three tasks. You are free to take on various missions in the story for Assassin's Creed 2, although each of these individual missions follow a linear path toward your main assassination goal. Speaking of missions, the ones included in this game are highly active and get the players involved, such as a combination of racing over city roofs and combat. This applies for both main or side missions in Assassin's Creed 2.

Even the mini map has received full upgrade in Assassin's Creed 2. A neat touch would be your ability to spot enemies even when they are not out to hunt after you. During chase sequences and you're trying to evade enemies, you can consult the mini map to determine where your enemies are coming from to avoid being caught or ending up at a dead-end. Once you are able to evade them for a given period of time, you'll find a yellow circle appear on the mini map. You can go to that zone and take cover until you eventually run away free.

Exploring the various levels in Assassin's Creed 2 also won't leave you out in vain in an effort to search for hints and try to figure out on your own what your next move is supposed to be. Some objects in the game are marked with white drapes, so you can get a hint whether to climb over a roof and have other means of escape. But of course, you can always check your map in Assassin's Creed 2 to figure out how to go about these levels on your own. There are 6 secret tombs to explore in the game and they are worthy of checking out since you could potentially find a hidden assassin's seal. If you get the whole set of assassin's seals, you can use it to unlock the same armor that Altair used in the original game. Picking up that armor is important since the health system in Assassin's Creed 2 relies mainly on the type of armor you use, such that better armors can give you longer health.

As with the gameplay, you can be confident that Assassin's Creed 2 will deliver its distinct quality and signature. Every piece of object or character comes with gorgeous details that are subtly done. The stunning graphic design suits well the superb audio quality used in the game, thus working together to delivering a vibrant game world that is in itself worth checking out.

The revamped mission structure, the pace of the game, and every bit of aspect featured in Assassin's Creed 2 makes up for a successful gaming experience, that is without a doubt one of those you need to check out if quality game is your thing.
