Guide to Alone In The Dark Inferno on the PlayStation 3

Alone in the Dark was to be originally released at the same time as its XBox 360 counterpart. Some fans were hopeful about the original release, but it had a few issues that drew back this game and so several fans felt that the Xbox 360 version was unable to showcase the potential of this survival horror game. This led to the decision to hold back on the PS3 version until now. The developers studied closely those issues and lapses that were complained by fans and worked on that while also adding some more elements to make Alone in the Dark Inferno a more satisfying game for fans.

You can expect Alone in the Dark Inferno to be the same highly exhilarating game set in an open world environment and more. Sad to say the Xbox release was a bit mediocre knowing the capabilities of this game. So the developers had to go back to the drawing board to fix a large portion of this new game which includes the character movement, camera system, controls, and the overall experience elicited by the game. All of these elements are crucial to create an engaging experience knowing that Alone in the Dark Infero is not one horror game to settle for cheap thrills.

The story in Alone in the Dark Inferno continues on with the plot of the original game wherein gamers would have to play as Edward Carnby. Although it does have a few similar aspects to the Resident Evil games, the plot does not revolve around scientific occurrences. Instead, the game focuses on supernatural events and although some areas of the story prove unrealistic, it has managed to successfully incorporate itself into the game for a decent experience.

Most of the events in Alone in the Dark Inferno takes place in Central Park. For most of the time all throughout the game, you'd have to make escape from burning or nearly destroyed buildings and navigate the streets of New York. In certain areas in the game, you'd also be involved in lots of driving due to the insertion of the chase sequence into the gameplay. The entire story is broken down into various chapters that you must complete, same with the original game. But Alone in the Dark Inferno has been added another chapter, which also adds a new boss encounter into your adventure.

As one of the major issues in the previous game, the controls in Alone in the Dark Inferno has been much improved. The controls for the Xbox 360 version caused a lot of limitations in the way the player can navigate around the world of the game. But with Alone in the Dark Inferno, you can use the right analog stick to control the camera so you can easily move around in 360 degree angle to provide a better view of your surroundings. If you want, you can also switch from the first- to the third-person perspective, which is helpful in executing certain moves or jumps during the game. The changes in the control methods certainly proves to be a lot helpful in the driving sequences for this game.

Other new innovations in Alone in the Dark Inferno include the very effective inventory system and the new tip system. Starting things off with the inventory system, it proves to be one of the most helpful change in Alone in the Dark Inferno. All of your weapons and items are stored inside your jacket and pockets, and if you want to use any one of them, you simply look into your jacket. But to be able to do this, you must first assume a first-person view and once you found the item you want, you can simply equip them. One great aspect in the inventory system for Alone in the Dark Inferno is the ability to combine various weapons to achieve varying effects.

Another one of those new additions for Alone in the Dark Inferno is the tip system. Even for the most expert gamer of this series, you can find yourself stuck at some point during the game. With this in mind, subtle hints or reminders are provided in the game so you can progress in the game if ever you find yourself stranded in certain locations, which can be really frustrating at times.

On top of the weapons available in the game, the combat system for Alone in the Dark Inferno has seen a great addition in the form of fire. As the title of this game suggests, fire plays a vital role in the gameplay. Since you will be encountering quite a few monsters in your game, fire is a great way to effectively kill them. Hence, if you were to look into the weapons and items in your inventory, most of them are flammable or when combined with other items is able to produce fire.

One example of combining items available in Alone in the Dark Infero is by making a sticky bomb by using a sticky tape into a bottle and shooting a gun at it. Or better yet, you can trail a gasoline and light it with a matchstick for an easy melee weapon that can take out multiple enemies at one blow. Alone in the Dark Inferno requires you to be creative in using all items available to you instead of opting for their traditional use if you want to make more effective attacks.

If you do happen to be the receiving end of any form of attack in Alone in the Dark Inferno, you will be able to see the actual damage on the player's body instead of a life bar. Actual bleeding will be visible in the player's body, so you are able to assess the amount of damage your player has incurred. There are certain items already available to you or must be acquired to help heal the wounds of your in-game character.

For instance, a spray can be directly applied into a wound to heal it. Meanwhile, bandages are available to close off any slices or cuts you have. More than preventing the continuous bleeding, it is important to bandage your wounds since it will attract monsters or enable them to detect just where you are.

Alone in the Dark Inferno features an innovative DVD style menu, just as the original game did. This will enable gamers to easily navigate their way into the game. This menu format also enables you to skip certain parts that you do not like and when you have reached the stage you want, there is a “previously on” segment that catches you up on anything you've missed.

When it comes to the technical aspect of Alone in the Dark Inferno, the presentation has never been a weak spot for this franchise. The visual presentation of the character models and the environment for Alone in the Dark Inferno are really engaging. And the loading times are quicker than most game, so you can expect no dull moments when you're playing this game. When it comes to the audio, the voice work is not too impressive. However, it does make up for a brilliant soundtrack that is responsible for establishing the overall feel of the game.

The previous release on the Xbox 360 off of this franchise might be a tad disappointing, but the new PS3 version for Alone in the Dark Inferno was able to resurrect the franchise and make this a top contender not only in the survival horror genre but in the entire gaming scene.
